Three Speed Stage Amphibious Boat
In the following 4 short videos, Walt Schulz, naval architect, designer and marine engineer, takes you through the story of nine years of research and development leading up to the world's first variable speed amphibious watercraft... the Shannon Amphfoil.
The Preliminary Tests
During 2014-2016, the Amphfoil concept was successfully tested using a 20-foot craft constructed of aircraft plywood covered with polymer. Components were designed and engineered to "hot swap" or exchange foils, hulls, wings, etc., to test performance characteristics of each under actual water towing conditions using electronic drag testing equipment at various weights, surface areas and speeds.
